The Basics

  • Be yourself. If you happen to copy and paste from our templates, be sure to add your own flair and personal story.
  • Know your stuff about Ulman. (That’s why we wrote you some templates!)
  • Thank your donors. (Everyone loves to be thanked, and they deserve it.)

The First Ask

Dear Mary,
I’ve got some exciting news! This April I’m riding my bike from Baltimore to Key West to support young adults with cancer with the Ulman Foundation’s Key to Keys bike ride. I know it sounds a little crazy, but it’s for an amazing cause that is close to my heart.
Two years ago my niece was diagnosed with cancer, she went through an entire year of tough treatments, and now is cancer free! Ulman Foundation provided her and my family so much support I wanted to do something to give back. I’m taking this journey to Key West to celebrate her and support some of the amazing programs Ulman offers to young adults with cancer.
Here are just a couple of things Ulman does:
  • Provide free support groups to young adult cancer patients
  • Provide free housing to young cancer patients (and their caregivers!) at Ulman House in Baltimore
  • Get cancer survivors back on their feet with Cancer to 5K
My goal is to raise $5,000 by April 1st. Will you make a donation today to support my Key to Keys ride? Donations can be made on my personal page here: [Page link!]
Or by sending a check to:
Ulman Foundation
2118 E Madison Street
Baltimore, MD 21205
Don’t forget to add my name to the memo line!
I cannot thank you enough the support you are able to offer and would love to return the favor by dedicating one of my riding days to someone you know impacted by cancer. Each day I will write these dedications on my legs and think of them every mile of my journey.
Cancer changes lives…SO DO WE!
Thank you,
Fred

Reminder

Hi John,
Just checking in and wanted to remind you about my Key to Keys trip this April. Have you heard about the amazing work that Ulman does? They opened a hospitality house in Baltimore for young adult cancer patients to stay for free while they’re getting treatment. I know Ulman House would have made a big difference for my friend James while he was getting a bone marrow transplant, and that’s why I’m riding to Key West. I want to make sure no one faces cancer alone.
Your donation will help ensure the Ulman Foundation can further their mission to support more young adults impacted by cancer. Will you make a contribution today? You can check out my fundraising page – and read more about why I’m dedicating a week this spring to fighting cancer. [Page Link]
Thanks for your support!
Sally

Half-Way There

Hi Hannah,
We’re halfway there! I can hardly believe it myself, the outpouring of support is overwhelming. It’s been 3 years since my mom passed, but dedicating this ride to her seems like the perfect way to honor her memory. The community I have found at the Ulman Foundation is so special, and I want to make sure that other people feel that same community when their family is faced with a cancer diagnosis. Can you pitch in $50 to help me reach my goal of raising $5,000?
Check out my fundraising page and read more about my trip to Key West. [Page Link]
Thanks for your support!
Jeremy

Thank You

Hi Harry,
I just wanted to send you a note to thank you for supporting my Key to Keys journey and the Ulman Foundation’s mission. I certainly could not have done it without you.
We raised $5,509! But this experience has gone beyond simply raising funds, it means so much to me how my community rallied together to help support this cause and you were a big part of that. I can’t wait to send you pictures from my trip – Day 5 is dedicated to your parents Lily and Charles!
Again, thank you! I truly appreciate your generosity.
Love,
Sam
