CANCER CHANGES LIVES – SO DOES THIS RIDE.
How It Works
STEP 1
Join the 2024 Interest List
There’s more than one way to pedal from Baltimore to Key West.
Whether you want to pedal a bike or put the pedal to the metal in one of our support vans, there are ways for everyone to support the AYA cancer community during Key to Keys.
Become a Rider
LEARN MOREIt's as easy as riding a bike
Really! Bikers of all levels and ages are encouraged to join us on this adventure of a lifetime. You’ll accomplish more than you thought you could with the support of your fellow riders, but this experience is about so much more than that!
Become a Driver
LEARN MORENot all heroes wear capes
Some drive vans. Support Drivers are in charge of getting the teams from point A to point B with a whole lot of cheer (and snacks.) Bonus points if you can read a map.
STEP 2
FUNDRAISE
For riders, the minimum fundraising goal is $4,500. For support drivers the minimum fundraising goal is $1,500, a dollar for every mile from here to Key West. Fundraising tips and tricks, plus frequent check in calls with our awesome staff, will help to support your efforts.
Fundraising tips and tricks, plus frequent check-in calls with our awesome staff, will help to support your efforts. The best thing you can do to set yourself up for success is to start fundraising as early as possible to tell your friends, family, colleagues, neighbors, dentists, baristas (you get the point) about why your ride is changing lives!
Here at the Ulman Foundation, we envision a world where no young adult faces cancer alone. The money raised goes towards our programs to help us change lives (everyday) of young adult’s facing cancer.
Every 8 minutes a young adult is diagnosed with cancer.
By participating in Key to Keys or supporting a rider, you are helping the Ulman Foundation provide essential psychosocial support and programming to patients, survivors, and caregivers impacted by this disease.
STEP 3
Time to Ride
It’s about the journey and the destination.
We begin our trek on April 20, 2024, after a send-off from Baltimore, Maryland. Each day riders will follow a predetermined route, covering as few or as many miles of the route as they want to conquer, with the support of our trusty van drivers along the way. Every day we travel through new towns and trails while sharing our meals and staying in hotels on the route.
Baltimore to Key West — isn’t that over 1200 miles…it doesn’t make sense?! We know, we know. We do not cover all 1200+ miles by bike. We average 40 to 60 miles each day with one Century ride in Florida! All of our routes are pre-determined and all speeds are welcome (really!). When we are finished riding we rack our bikes and head to our host hotel.
If you know how to ride a bike you can do this ride! We welcome riders of all levels, from experienced road cyclists to casual neighborhood explorers, you’re invited to the journey of a lifetime.
You’ll have the opportunity to engage in mission and team activities throughout the journey. We stop and visit cancer centers, hospitals, and patients along our route!
Hotels, meals, and team attire (swag) will be provided. Participants are responsible for their transportation to Baltimore for departure and back home from Key West.
“Key to Keys is so much more than a fun way to travel the coast, it’s nothing short of a mentally transformative experience.
My Ulman Experience was enlightening and healing in ways I still can’t describe. I think we’ve all had challenges with social isolation since the pandemic and a cancer diagnosis can multiply that feeling tenfold. In the most humbling way, I was able to see first hand why Ulman’s social programs are so important for caregivers and survivors alike.”
